Residential Students’ Workshop
tHINK cREATE eNGINEER, a three day residential program for students was hosted by PALS.
This helped to hone students’ creative thinking skills. The concept of engineering sense was delved into. The students were encouraged to inculcate their ability to innovate and develop empathy for a problem so as to come up with solutions.
Every year 100+ students participate and enrich their skills.
Engineering Problem statements with specifications were provided along with material(they had to improvise with available material in some cases) and the students had to create solutions and finally build a prototype. The hands-on project design and development helped them not just solve the problem at hand, but appreciate the problems faced in building prototypes. Team building, understanding the skill set that each individual brings to the table were instilled in the students subconsciously. Visits to cutting edge innovation laboratories in IIT Madras was part of the schedule. The evening brought forth camaraderie and appreciation of hostel life, different cultural backgrounds, et al. An extra mural on gender sensitivity became part of one evening.
